The Salesians of Don Bosco is an International Catholic Charitable Religious Organisation. Salesians of Don Bosco came to Ghana in 1992 through the intervention of the late Bishop James Owusu.
Early in 1993, an international team of Salesians accepted the invitation and arrived in Sunyani. A scheme to care for street children in Sunyani town began in 1995 and has developed into the Don Bosco Boys’ Home (a Child Protection Centre).
The Bosco Boys Home is a Center where vulnerable children and children exposed to risk are taking care of through the help of our benefactors. A development in 1996 was the Don Bosco Vocational/Technical Training Centre in Odumase- Sunyani, offering training in Agriculture, Carpentry, Masonry, Metalwork, Typewriting, Computer Skills, Computer Hardware and Graphic and Arts.
A further development was the establishment of the Vocational Training Centre in Ashaiman where poor and abandoned youngsters and mainly drop outs could find a chance to do some vocational and life-skills training in Electronics, Auto-mechanics, Electricity, Refrigeration, Welding and Fabrication, Secretarial and Computer Studies in order to provide them job opportunities after completion. All the courses in the Vocational Training Centers had a duration of 2-3 years, which after completion a certificate will be awarded in order to help them with job opportunities.
